The September 11 Attacks
Hijacked airliners bring down the towers in New York and reshape world politics for decades.
Nineteen al-Qaeda hijackers seize four airliners; two strike the World Trade Center, one the Pentagon, and one crashes in a field after passengers fight back. Almost three thousand people die. America invades Afghanistan and later Iraq, security regimes tighten everywhere, and terrorism dominates world politics.
