Erfurt bore him; Cologne and Worms had him as rabbi, and then Frankfurt am Main.
The sources differ over his death, and the difference itself speaks of the time. By one reading he was killed at Erfurt in 1349, in the massacres of the Black Death; by another he died at Frankfurt before 1349, and the account of his killing arose from confusion with another man, Israel ben Yoel Süsslin. We set 1349 as the outer limit and name the other reading.
