Baranovich ברנוביץ
The Ohel Torah yeshiva of Rabbi Elchonon Wasserman: by the late 1930s nearly three hundred students, and notes of his shiurim circulated in all the yeshivot of Europe.
The town grew up along the railway at the end of the nineteenth century and quickly became more than half Jewish. From 1921 the Ohel Torah yeshiva stood here, headed by Rabbi Elchonon Wasserman.
The yeshiva was not large beside Mir or Radin—some three hundred by the late thirties—but carried extraordinary weight: copies of Rabbi Elchonon's shiurim circulated in all the yeshivot of Eastern Europe. The community was destroyed in 1942.
