Chanoch son of Cain חֲנוֹךְ בֶּן קַיִן

Cain's firstborn, after whom the first city was named

"And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Chanoch. And he was building a city, and called the city by the name of his son, Chanoch" (Bereshit 4:17).

That is all that is said. No year of birth, no year of death, no lifespan: the line of Cain runs through the Torah without a single figure, unlike the line of Seth in the next chapter.

He is not to be confused with Chanoch of Seth's line, who "walked with God, and he was not, for God took him" (Bereshit 5:24). Different men, different lines, different ends; one name.
