Rabbi David Pardo—the Chasdei David רבי דוד פרדו

a Venetian who explained the Tosefta from beginning to end

Born at Venice in 1718; he taught at Split, from 1764 was chief rabbi of Sarajevo, and late in life went up to Jerusalem, where he died in 1790; another reading gives 1719–92. His also are Shoshannim le-David on the Mishnah, Maskil le-David on Rashi, and piyyutim that entered the Sephardi prayer books.

There are several David Pardos in history—of Amsterdam, of London; ours is the Sarajevan, author of the Chasdei David. His son Yitzchak took the Sarajevo seat.
