the third rebbe of Lelov; the first rebbe of Lelov in Jerusalem
Born in Lelov in 1827; at twenty-three he came with his father to Jerusalem, and within a few weeks was left without him. He took the court in 1851.
Jerusalem. The Old Yishuv lived on the chalukah and was for the most part not chasidic; the Lelov chasidim kept a house of their own, and he kept them. He was known for prayer: hours at the Western Wall, by night and in rain. The chasidic tales of Jerusalem about prayer at the Wall are most often about him.
The house. From him on the Lelov court is a Jerusalem court: his sons and grandsons led it on in Jerusalem, while the Polish branch of the house stayed in Poland. He died in 1883.
