Bava Batra בבא בתרא

The largest tractate of the Talmud. It begins with a shared courtyard and a partition: who pays for the wall, at what distance a pit may be dug from a neighbour's wall, where smoke and smell may go. Then how land is acquired, what constitutes established possession, the rights of seller and buyer.

The second half is inheritance: the order of heirs, the rights of daughters, of the firstborn, of the widow; and the documents by which all of it is attested. And at the start of the third chapter the Gemara sets out who wrote each book of the Tanakh—the oldest Jewish text on the origin of Scripture.

Order: Nezikin. There is Gemara in both the Babylonian and the Jerusalem Talmud.
