From the seven kinds for which the Land of Israel is praised the owner picks the first ripe fruits, puts them in a basket and carries them to the Temple. There he says the words from Deuteronomy: "an Aramean would have destroyed my father"—and then the whole story of the descent into Egypt and the going out from it.

The third chapter describes the procession itself: how they gathered by districts, how they slept in the square, how an ox with gilded horns went in front and a flute played all the way to Jerusalem, and how the officers of the city came out to meet them. It is one of the most living descriptions of Temple times in the whole Mishnah.
