Kiddushin קידושין

The first mishnah is short: a woman becomes a wife in three ways—by money, by a document, or by conjugal union—and out of that line grew the whole law of Jewish marriage. The tractate then works through agents, conditions, a father's authority and doubtful cases.

The last chapter turns aside and proves the most quoted of all: the list of a father's duties to his son—to circumcise him, redeem him, teach him Torah, marry him off and teach him a trade; "and one who does not teach him a trade teaches him robbery". Here too is the argument over which is greater, study or deed—and the answer: study, because it leads to deed.
