Peah פאה

The Torah commands not to reap the corner of the field, not to gather the fallen ears and not to go back for a forgotten sheaf. The tractate works out how much a "corner" is, to which fields the rule applies and who counts as poor.

The essential thing in these commandments is that there is no almsgiving in them: the owner simply does not take what is his, and the poor come and gather for themselves. Mishnah Peah 1:1 lists the things that "have no measure" and opens the list with peah; it is recited every morning at the beginning of the prayers.

Order: Zeraim. There is Gemara only in the Jerusalem Talmud.
