Zevachim זבחים
a tractate of the order of Kodashim
The tractate opens the order of Kodashim and takes the service apart: the slaughter, the receiving of the blood, its conveyance, its dashing. Intention holds a special place: an offering slaughtered not for its own sake is valid but does not count for its owner, while the thought of performing an act outside its proper time makes the offering unfit.
The fifth chapter—"where is the place of the offerings"—lists every kind of offering in order and the place of each. It was set into the morning prayers and is said daily: studying the order of the service came to stand in place of the service when the Temple was gone.
