He took up the court after his father at twenty-four. He was famed for giving: everything brought to him passed through his hands, and by evening nothing remained. All his life he inclined toward the Land of Israel and at the end meant to move there.
His book is called Tzemach Tzaddik—and here a caution against confusion is owed: Tzemach Tzedek is the Lubavitcher rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneersohn, his older contemporary and likewise a namesake. Two names, two books, two courts.
