Rav Michel Yehuda Lefkowitz רב מיכל יהודה ליפקוביץ
head of the Ponevezh L'Tzeirim yeshiva; teacher of several generations in Bnei Brak
Born in Volozhin—the very town where the first Lithuanian yeshiva stood. At twelve he entered the yeshiva in Rakov, then learned at the Ramailes yeshiva in Vilna under Rav Shlomo Heiman, and afterwards at the Chevron yeshiva in Jerusalem. His teachers were Rav Shlomo Heiman, Rav Leib Chasman and Rav Isser Zalman Meltzer, and in Bnei Brak the Chazon Ish.
From 1940 until his death in 2011—seventy years running—he gave lessons at the Tiferes Tzion yeshiva in Bnei Brak. From 1954 until 2009—fifty-five years—he was head of Ponevezh L'Tzeirim, where those who are only entering learning come. Generations of Bnei Brak youths passed through his hands.
He was a member of the Council of Torah Sages. His lessons and talks appeared as Chiddushei Shlomo, Minchas Yehuda and Imrei Daas. He died in 2011, in his ninety-eighth year.
