Rabbi Mordechai Leifer of Nadvorna רבי מרדכי לייפער מנדבורנה
founder of the Nadvorna court—the root of a dozen courts of Maramureș and Bukovina
Of the Premishlan family: the great-grandson of Rabbi Meir the Great, a disciple of the Besht, and kin to Rabbi Meir of Premishlan. He set up his court in Nadvorna in the Carpathians in 1857.
What came from him. He had many sons, and each settled in his own townlet: so the Nadvorna house spread into Kretchnif, Bania, Sighet-Nadvorna and other branches—more than a dozen. After the Shoah they gathered in the Land of Israel and in America, and there are more Nadvorna courts today than of any other house.
He died on 15 Tevet 1893.
