Rabbi Moshe Elyakim Beriah Hopstein of Kozhnitz—the Be’er Moshe רבי משה אליקים בריעה הופשטיין מקוז׳ניץ — באר משה

The only son of the Maggid of Kozhnitz; at his father’s side all his life, and his father’s pupil alone. He took the court after the Maggid’s death in 1815.

Books. The Be’er Moshe—talks on the weekly portions; Da’at Moshe—on the festivals; Binat Moshe—on the Psalms. The father is heard in them: the same plainness, the same care for the simple chasid. The teaching of Kozhnitz has come down to us largely through them.

The court. Under him Kozhnitz remained what it had been under the father: a house of prayer and a house of help, where people came for counsel and for bread alike. He died in 1828; the court passed to his son-in-law and grandsons, and the house of Kozhnitz spread out over several townlets of Poland.
