Rabbi Moshe Teitelbaum of Satmar—the Berach Moshe רבי משה טייטלבוים מסאטמאר — ברך משה
the second rebbe of Satmar; he took the court in America after his uncle
The nephew of Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum and, like him, a descendant of the Yismach Moshe. He was rabbi of Senta in Yugoslavia; in 1944 he passed through the ghetto and Auschwitz. His wife and three daughters perished.
After the war he moved to America and served as rebbe in Brooklyn and in Kiryas Joel. In 1979, after his uncle’s death, the Satmar chasidim recognised him as rebbe.
What he held to. He held the Satmar argument against Zionism as firmly as his uncle, but led the court more gently: he argued less and built more. Under him Kiryas Joel grew, and the Satmar quarters of Brooklyn and Monsey.
He died on 26 Nisan 2006. His books are the Berach Moshe on the Torah and on the festivals.
