Rabbi Nachum Partzovitz רבי נחום פרצוביץ
head of the Mir yeshiva in Jerusalem; lessons on the tractates
He was born in 1923 at Trakai near Vilna, studied in the yeshivot of Lithuania and at Mir—and went with the yeshiva along its road of the war: Vilna, Kobe, Shanghai. After the war, in Jerusalem, he married the daughter of Rabbi Chaim Shmulevitz and became a lecturer at the Mir yeshiva, and then one of its heads.
His lessons were famed for their sharpness: he would take a hard passage, examine the opinions of the Rishonim to the foundation and build the answer on the text itself. Students came from other yeshivot to hear him, and the records of his lessons—the Chiddushei Rabbi Nachum on the tractates Bava Kamma, Bava Metzia, Bava Batra, Gittin, Kiddushin and others—were published and became standard in the yeshivot. In his last years he was gravely ill, but he did not give up the lessons.
He died in Jerusalem in 1986.
