Rabbi Abba רבי אבא
amora who travelled between Babylonia and the Land of Israel
A student of Rav Huna and Rav Yehuda in Babylonia, he longed for the Land and kissed its stones when he went up. He traded in silk, and between trades he carried words: what was heard in Tiberias he repeated in Sura, and back again. Without such travellers, Babylonia and the Land would have drifted into two different Torahs.
