Rav Rechumai רב רחומי

a Savora who disputed with Rav Yose

Rav Rechumai (Nechumai in part of the lists) stands in Rav Sherira's letter among those who crossed from the last generation of the Amoraim into the first of the Savoraim. He died in Nisan 4266.

His name is known also for repeating itself: the Talmud has several Ravs Rechumai of different generations, and they can be told apart only by who speaks with whom. This one is he whom the letter names beside Rav Yose, the first of the Savoraim by name.

The lists of the Savoraim have come down in poor shape: Seder Tannaim veAmoraim and Ibn Daud's Sefer haKabbalah give the names in a different order and sometimes in a different set. All that is known of this age rests on a single letter of Rav Sherira, written half a thousand years later.
