Serach bat Asher שרח בת אשר

In the list of those who went down to Egypt, among Jacob's grandsons stands one woman—"and Serach their sister"; and she is named again in the census at the leaving, two hundred years on. The midrash read it literally: Serach lived from Jacob to Moses. It was she, tradition says, who by a song told her grandfather Joseph lived—and for the good tidings received long life; she who showed Moses where in the Nile Joseph's coffin lay, without which the people could not leave.

In the aggadah she is the last one who remembers: when the sages argued how the sea looked at the crossing, Serach, says the midrash, told them: "I was there—not so". A woman of memory, for whom Scripture recorded neither death nor grave.
