Rabbi Shlomo of Karlin רבי שלמה מקרלין
successor of Rabbi Aharon in Karlin; killed at prayer in Ludmir
He studied under the Maggid of Mezeritch and under Rabbi Aharon the Great, and after Rabbi Aharon's death in 5532 he took the Karlin court. From him the whole Karlin-Stolin branch continued: Rabbi Mordechai of Lechovitch, Rabbi Asher of Stolin, Rabbi Uri of Strelisk.
In Karlin prayer was conducted aloud and with the body—and that has remained the mark of the court.
He was killed in Ludmir on 22 Tammuz 5552, during the Russo-Polish war: a Cossack shot him. Chassidic tradition holds that the bullet found him at prayer.
