Rabbi Shmuel Engel רבי שמואל ענגיל
rabbi of Radomyśl; eight volumes of responsa
He was born in 1853 at Tarnów in Galicia; he studied under Rabbi Chaim Halberstam of Sanz and was a chasid of his court. In 1876 he became rabbi of Biłgoraj, and from 1886 of Radomyśl near Tarnów, where he remained for nearly half a century.
His fame is his answers. From Radomyśl he corresponded with the Maharsham and with the rabbis of Hungary and Poland, and his responsa made up eight volumes, printed in his lifetime and after. In the First World War he fled the Russian advance to Košice, where he stayed to the end of his life, still answering.
He died at Košice in 1935.
