Sivan סיוון

"In the third month after the children of Israel went out of Egypt… they came to the wilderness of Sinai"—and on the first of Sivan they encamped "as one man with one heart". On the sixth is Shavuot, the close of the Omer count: fifty days from the Exodus to the giving of the Torah. On Shavuot night it is the custom to learn until dawn—tikkun leil Shavuot—and in the synagogues the Ten Utterances and the book of Ruth are read.

The month names now in use are Babylonian: "the names of the months came up with us from Babylon", says the Jerusalem Talmud. In the Torah months are counted—"the first", "the seventh"—from Nisan, the month of the Exodus.
