author of Kehillos Yaakov; after the Chazon Ish, the man people came to for counsel
He studied in Navahrudak and then in Białystok. He was taken into the army—and managed to get out; the stories of those years were passed on in his world as stories of steadfastness.
He married Pesha Miriam Karelitz, sister of the Chazon Ish. In 5694 his brother-in-law insisted he leave Poland, and he moved to Bnei Brak. It saved his life.
Kehillos Yaakov. Nineteen volumes on the Talmud. His analysis is not Brisker in its sharpness but calm and thorough: he takes a question to its end rather than to its polish.
After the Chazon Ish died in 5714 people came to him for counsel—and went on coming for thirty years. He died on 23 Av 5745 in Bnei Brak.
