Winston Churchill
Britain's wartime prime minister; he led the resistance to Nazism
In 1940 he refused to come to terms with Germany, when coming to terms looked like the only way out. He called himself a Zionist all his life and said so long before it was politically convenient. And his government issued the 1922 White Paper separating Transjordan from the territory of the Jewish national home, and in the war his cabinet did not rescind the White Paper of 1939, which restricted entry to Palestine at precisely the moment when flight was most needed. In 1944 he declined to bomb the approaches to Auschwitz, though the question was put.
The record is contradictory, and both ends of it are documented. He was born on 30 November 1874, that is already in 5635 AM.
