Founder of the Academy: the theory of Forms, the Republic
The Academy he founded stood for nine centuries. Through the Arabic translators and through Aristotle, Plato reached Jewish philosophy—Saadia Gaon, Ibn Gabirol, the Kuzari. The sages of the Talmud do not speak of him; the medieval philosophers argue with him constantly.
His birth is not a date but a range: 428–423 BCE. His death, 348/347.
