Saladin صلاح الدين
Kurdish sultan who retook Jerusalem from the Crusaders in 1187
Maimonides was court physician to his vizier al-Qadi al-Fadil, and on some testimony to the sultan's household as well. There is no direct documentation that he treated Saladin himself; the common "Saladin's personal physician" is a simplification.
His birth year is 1137 or 1138.
