the first Hebrew book to carry rabbinical approbations
The book was planned as a supplement to the Turim of Rabbi Yaakov ben Asher and written for a student, Ezra Abraham ben David Obadiah. Its particular work was this: it brought the Ashkenazi authorities into Italian use, where before they had hardly been reckoned with.
Bound with the Agur is Sefer Hazon, halakhic riddles; it was printed separately too, at Venice in 1546 and at Prague in 1608. The author came from Germany; in 1480 he is at Pavia, from 1487 at Naples. The sources give no year of birth; he died in 1493.
