Rav Yehuda Tzadka—Kol Yehuda רב יהודה צדקה — «קול יהודה»
head of the Porat Yosef yeshiva after Rav Ezra Attia
He spent seventy years in one yeshiva—as student, as teacher, as head. Born in Jerusalem into a family of Baghdadi origin, he entered the Porat Yosef yeshiva as a boy, when it had only just opened in the Old City. His teacher was Rav Ezra Attia, and beside him he remained for life: first as a student, then—from his young years—as teacher of the younger ones.
It was he who gave the lessons for those who later led the Sephardic world: Rav Ovadia Yosef and Rav Ben Tzion Abba Shaul learned at his lessons. In 1970, after Rav Attia's death, he headed the yeshiva and held it for twenty years, in the years when it grew from one house in the Old City into a network of yeshivot across the country.
His lessons and commentaries appeared as Kol Yehuda. He died in Cheshvan 1991. A quiet man of whom little was known outside the yeshiva—and the teacher of those whom everyone knew.
