Rabbi Yehuda Tzvi Brandwein of Stretin רבי יהודה צבי ברנדוויין מסטרעטין
founder of the Stretin court; successor of the Saraf of Strelisk
Son of Rabbi Shmuel of Zavaliv. He was born about 1780; he studied under Rabbi Aharon Aryeh Leib of Premishlan and under Rabbi Uri of Strelisk, the Saraf.
In 1826, when the Saraf died, part of the Strelisk chasidim followed him, and he settled in Stretin. He led prayer in the Strelisk way—aloud and at full strain—and that remained the mark of the Stretin house.
He published no books of his own: his teaching was gathered by his great-grandson in the Degel Machane Yehuda and the She'erit Yehuda. He died on 11 Iyar 1844. His elder son Rabbi Avraham took the court.
