founder of the Komarno court; he left a diary of his inner life—a thing unheard of in Chasidut
The nephew and disciple of Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch; after his death he settled in Komarno and continued the same kabbalistic line.
Books. Heichal HaBracha is a commentary on the Torah where the chasidic reading runs together with the Lurianic; there are commentaries on the Zohar and on Sefer Yetzirah; Otzar HaChaim is on the commandments.
Megillas Setarim. A separate and strange book: a diary in which he set down his dreams, his visions and the measure of his own work upon himself—plainly, in the first person, without the reticence usual in such matters. He forbade its printing. The manuscript was found and published in the twentieth century, and it became one of the few testimonies of how a chasidic rebbe saw himself from within.
He died on 10 Iyar 1874.
