the third rebbe of Chernobyl; the eldest of the eight brothers, who stayed in the father’s house
The eldest son of Rabbi Mordechai. After the father’s death in 1837 the brothers scattered: Skver, Talne, Rachmastrivka, Makarov, Trisk, Hornostaipil, Korostyshiv—seven towns and seven courts, while he remained in Chernobyl itself.
This is the Chernobyl way: not one heir but a divided land. The Twersky courts of Ukraine all come from this house, and the kinship among them is direct.
He led Chernobyl thirty-four years and died on 5 Sivan 1871.
