Rabbi Yitzchak Twersky of Skver רבי יצחק טברסקי מסקווירא
founder of the Skver court; one of Rabbi Mordechai’s eight sons
One of the eight sons of Rabbi Mordechai of Chernobyl. In the division of the father’s inheritance Skver in the Kiev province fell to him, and from 1837 he led his court there for almost half a century.
Under him Skver was a court of ordinary size among the Twersky houses. Fame came to the Skver house much later: the survivors of the Shoah gathered in America and in 1954 founded the village of New Square outside New York—the first settlement in the United States built entirely by one chasidic community.
He died on 27 Iyar 1885.
