The pogrom in the Prague ghetto fell on 18 April 1389, the last day of Pesach. Few texts meet such a fate: what was written of his own city and his own year became a prayer said on the Day of Judgement wherever the Ashkenazi rite is kept.

Eight of his liturgical poems survive; he wrote kabbalistic and philosophical works too, in Hebrew and in Yiddish. His grave is the oldest identified burial in the Old Jewish Cemetery of Prague. The sources give no year of birth; he died in 1439.
