On 16 August 1399 he was seized at Prague on the denunciation of the convert Peter, who charged the Jews with blaspheming the Christian faith. He refuted the charges and survived; on 22 August 1400 seventy-seven Jews were put to death at Prague, and on 11 September three more were burnt.

Sefer ha-Nizzahon is three hundred and fifty-four paragraphs, written before 1410: the author hoped that redemption would come in that year.

What sets him apart is that he knew Latin and read the New Testament and the Karaite books in the original—for a rabbi of his time an exception. Hence his polemic runs two ways at once: against Christianity and against the Karaites, and he quotes both rather than paraphrasing them. In 1413 he is recorded as a dayyan at Prague.
