Rabbi Manoach of Narbonne—Sefer ha-Menuchah רבי מנוח מנרבונה — ספר המנוחה

he expounded the Mishneh Torah by the Provençal custom

The Mishneh Torah is written without references: the Rambam deliberately removed the names and the arguments so that pure law would remain for the reader. That merit turned into a difficulty—it became impossible to see what a ruling rested on. A whole generation set about answering it, and the Provençal share of that work is the Sefer ha-Menuchah of Rabbi Manoach.

He goes through Zmanim—the laws of time, Shabbat and the festivals—and for each place shows the source: this from the Gemara, this from the Geonim, here the Rif, and here our own practice is otherwise. Such a book does not argue with the Rambam as the Raavad does, nor defend him as the later ones do; it shows the working.

His years are not exactly named. It is known that he was of Narbonne, that he is later than the Raavad and earlier than the Meiri, and that the Provençal authorities read him.
