Rabbi Menachem Mendel Paneth of Dej—the Maaglei Tzedek רבי מנחם מנדל פאנעט מדעש — מעגלי צדק
the first rebbe of Dej; a disciple of the Chatam Sofer
Son of Rabbi Yechezkel Paneth of Karlsburg, the Mareh Yechezkel. He was born in 1818. He studied in Pressburg under the Chatam Sofer, and was the only student of the yeshiva who wore Chassidic dress; the Chatam Sofer praised him and walked with him on Friday nights.
From 1858 he was rabbi of Dej and rebbe. Under him the town became a Chassidic court. His books are the Maaglei Tzedek, the Shaarei Tzedek, the Mishpat Tzedek and the Avnei Tzedek.
He died in 1885. His son Rabbi Moshe took the court.
