Nachor son of Serug נָחוֹר בֶּן שְׂרוּג

father of Terach, grandfather of Abraham

"And Serug lived thirty years and begot Nachor" (Bereshit 11:22). He lived a hundred and forty-eight years—the shortest span in the line, half his father's.

He is not to be confused with his own grandson, Nachor the brother of Abraham and son of Terach. Grandfather and grandson bear the same name, which is ordinary in the Torah's genealogies; in this reference they are kept apart.

He died in 1997, a year before Abraham turned fifty.
