Profiat Duran—the Efodi פרופייט דוראן

The riots of 1391 went through all Spain, and he was baptised by force. Under a new name he served at court and remained an anus to the end, never managing to leave openly.

Al Tehi ka-Avotekha. A letter addressed to a man who had been baptised not under compulsion but by conviction—and written so that every praise of Christianity in it turns out to be mockery. "Be not like your fathers" is said as if in approval and reads as its opposite. Christian readers at first took the letter for their own and praised it; having understood it, they burned it publicly.

Kelimat ha-Goyim, "The Shaming of the Gentiles" (1397), was written at the request of Rabbi Hasdai Crescas: an examination of Christian doctrine out of the Christian books themselves, which he read in Latin, and a search in them for contradictions.

Ma'aseh Efod (1403) is his chief work and about something else entirely: a philosophical grammar of the Hebrew language, an introduction and thirty-three chapters. Jews and Christians alike praised it. It is from this book that he is called the Efodi—so much so that few remember his real name.
