Rabban Gamaliel III, son of Rabbi Judah ha-Nasi רבן גמליאל בן רבי יהודה הנשיא

Rabbi's heir: "the study of Torah is good together with a worldly occupation"

Three of his sayings are in Avot 2:2–4. The second runs: "Make His will thy will, so that He may make thy will like His own; make thy will of no account beside His, so that He may make the will of others of no account before thine."

Of his life little is known: the Jewish Encyclopedia says only that he lived within the first third of the third century, and gives no years. From him runs down the chain of patriarchs that will end two hundred years later.
