He became head of Pumbedita after Rav Dimi of Nehardea. His transmissions stand in Berakhot 8a, 26b and 59a, in Shabbat 81a, in Eruvin 83a, in Taanit 13a, in Kiddushin 81b.
The year of death is disputed: Abraham ibn Daud puts it at 387, Rav Sherira Gaon at 395. We take Sherira and name ibn Daud: Sherira wrote from the lists of his own academy.
