Rav Dimi of Nehardea רב דימי מנהרדעא

he traded in dried figs and became head of Pumbedita

In Bava Batra 22a it is told that Ada bar Abba examined him to see whether the privilege due to a scholar was due to him—and he did not answer. The Talmud tells this of a future head of the academy and does not smooth it over.

To him belongs the saying that rivalry among scholars increases wisdom (Bava Batra 21a). He occupied himself almost wholly with halakhah. He succeeded Rav Zevid, and Rafram bar Papa succeeded him.
