The great-grandson of the Tiferes Shlomo, the fourth rebbe of Radomsk; he took the court in 1911 after the death of his father, the Knesses Yechezkel.
Keser Torah. His chief work was a network of yeshivas: by the end of the thirties there were more than thirty across Poland, with a common charter, a common curriculum and the court’s money. Chasidic courts had had nothing of the kind: yeshivas were kept in the Lithuanian world, and chasidim studied otherwise. He held that without this the generation could not be kept.
The ghetto. In the autumn of 1939 he found himself in the Warsaw ghetto. He was offered a way out on forged papers; he refused. In Av 1942, during the great deportation, the Germans came to his flat, and he was killed there together with his family.
His teachings were published by the survivors under the name Shivchei Kohen.
