Rav Shmuel Rozovsky רב שמואל רוזובסקי
the first rosh yeshiva of Ponevezh in Bnei Brak
Born in Grodno, son of the town's rabbi, Rav Michel Dovid Rozovsky. He learned at the Sha'ar HaTorah yeshiva in Grodno under Rabbi Shimon Shkop—and there, as a boy, studied in pair with the future Rav Yisrael Zev Gustman. Later he taught at the Lomza yeshiva in Petach Tikva.
In 1944 Rav Yosef Shlomo Kahaneman, who was building in Bnei Brak a yeshiva in memory of murdered Ponevezh, set him at the head of it—he was about thirty, and he gave those lessons for thirty-five yearss lessons. He gave them until his death. He taught slowly and deeply: analysing not only what is said but how the dispute itself is built—and demanded the same of his students.
A generation of roshei yeshiva came out of his lessons. The records appeared as Shiurei Rabbi Shmuel and Zichron Shmuel. He was the son-in-law of Rav Tzvi Pesach Frank. He died in Tammuz 1979.
