Rabbi Yaakov Elimelech Paneth of Dej רבי יעקב אלימלך פאנעט מדעש
the fourth rebbe of Dej; he perished in Auschwitz
At fourteen he received rabbinic ordination from the great rabbis of Hungary; at eighteen he became rabbi of Marosujvar. He was born in 1889, the son of Rabbi Yechezkel, the Knesset Yechezkel.
After his father's death in 1929 he took the court of Dej. He published his father's book, the Knesset Yechezkel, and wrote his own, the Zichron Yaakov.
Early in 1943 he travelled to Budapest, trying to save his sons. In 1944 he was taken to Auschwitz together with the community of Dej and perished there. The surviving chasidim of Dej gathered after the war in America; that chain we do not yet record.
