The Yad Sofer—Rabbi Moshe Sofer of Erlau רבי משה סופר מערלוי—יד סופר
judge of Erlau; author of the Yad Sofer
Great-grandson of the Chatam Sofer and son of Rabbi Shimon Sofer. He was born on 25 Iyar 1885 in Eger and was a judge in his father's court there.
His book is the Yad Sofer, responsa; together with his father he prepared for print the works of the Chatam Sofer and the Ktav Sofer.
He perished on 21 Sivan 1944 in Auschwitz—on the same day as his father; his wife and four of his children perished there too. Two sons survived, and the younger of them, Rabbi Yochanan, set up the house of Erlau anew.
