Rabbi Yosef Meir Weiss of Spinka—the Imrei Yosef רבי יוסף מאיר ווייס מספינקא — אמרי יוסף
founder of the Spinka court in Maramureș
He studied under Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac of Komarno and took from there the kabbalistic reading of prayer. In 1876 he settled in Spinka—a townlet of Maramureș on the Hungarian-Romanian borderland.
Prayer. The Spinka manner is long prayer by the Lurianic kavanot; it is told that he finished the morning prayer well past midday and that the chasidim grew used to it over years. Of the chasidic courts of Hungary, Spinka was the most kabbalistic.
The book. Imrei Yosef is a set of teachings on the portions of the Torah, published in his lifetime.
He died on 6 Adar 1909. The court passed to his son, and after the Shoah it gathered in America and in the Land of Israel.
