Chakal Yitzchak—Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Weiss of Spinka חקל יצחק — רבי יצחק אייזיק ווייס מספינקא
the second rebbe of Spinka; murdered at Auschwitz
The son of Rabbi Yosef Meir Weiss of Spinka. He took the court after his father’s death in 1909.
The court. Under him Spinka grew: a yeshiva, thousands of chasidim across Maramureș and Transcarpathia, a manner of its own in prayer—loud, with the whole body in motion, as with the father. His book, the Chakal Yitzchak, is talks on the weekly portions.
The Shoah. In the spring of 5704 (1944) Hungarian Jewry was carried off to Auschwitz; he went with his people and perished there. After the war the Spinka court divided into several branches—in Brooklyn, Bnei Brak and Jerusalem.
