Person
Meremar—Mar Yemar מרימר
head of Sura after Rav Ashi
A student of Ravina I; the teachings of Rav Joseph and Rav Papi reached him through Ravina II. His colleagues were Mar Zutra and Rav Ashi. His students were Ravina II and Rav Aha of Difti. His son was Judah bar Meremar.
By Rav Sherira Gaon's list he headed Sura from 4187 to 4192 (427–432), directly after Rav Ashi.
His name is written two ways: Mar Yemar contracted into Meremar, and the reference book says so plainly. It is one man, not two.
