Rabbi Shlomo Shapira of Munkacs רבי שלמה שפירא ממונקאטש
founder of the Munkacs court; grandson of the Bnei Yissoschor
The grandson of Rabbi Tzvi Elimelech of Dinov. He served as rabbi in Galician towns, and in 1882 was called to the seat of Munkacs in Transcarpathia—a large, wealthy town, and no longer a Galician one.
The court moved there with him: the Munkacs house is a direct branch of Dinov, and so from the beginning it had two faces, the chasidic and the rabbinical. He was both rebbe and head of the court, and in Munkacs those two offices were never divided, neither under him nor under his descendants.
He died on 27 Iyar 1893. His responsa and teachings were published under the name Shem Shlomo.
